BPDI
Inverter Arc Vaporization Control Systems (IACS) The IACS series power supplies are an intelligent solution for implementing the arc evaporation method (Arc-PVD). They don’t simply supply current to the evaporator; they fully control the arc discharge behavior, ensuring process stability and exceptional adhesion of the applied coatings. Intelligent Arc Discharge Control The main challenge of arc evaporation is discharge instability and the risk of its “fading.” IACS systems are equipped with built-in algorithms that make the process autonomous:
• Automatic “smart” ignition: The unit continuously monitors the cathode voltage. If the arc extinguishes, the system immediately responds by delivering a series of high-voltage pulses (400 V) until the discharge is restored. This occurs in a fraction of a second, without disrupting the process.
• Cyclic Arc Movement: To prevent localized overheating and deep “craters” on the target, the BPDI uses a magnetic commutation system. Using position sensor data, the unit causes the arc to move evenly across the entire cathode surface. This ensures symmetrical wear of the target material and a stable vapor flow density.
• Focus Control: Built-in solenoid control channels allow fine-tuning of the magnetic field configuration, focusing or deflecting the plasma flow depending on the geometry of the part. Model Range: Spot and Extended Systems We have developed two control unit versions that transform the target from a standard consumable into a highly efficient resource.
• Spot BPDI: Ideal for localized evaporation sources. The unit is equipped with separate solenoid control regulators. This not only focuses the plasma flow on the parts but also ensures the most uniform wear of the target.
• Extended BPDI Designed for working with long targets in large-scale installations, the system ensures balanced power distribution across the entire surface of the evaporator. This is critical for uniform material wear along the entire length: the unit eliminates edge effects and ensures that the coating thickness is perfectly consistent both in the center and at the edges of an extended part. ________________________________________ Technological Advantages
• Digital Integration: The units are fully compatible with the ConVac software package. This allows for the creation of complex spray recipes, where current parameters are changed automatically according to a preset algorithm.
• Safety and Self-Diagnostics: A multi-level interlock system (vacuum readiness, cooling water flow, thermal protection) prevents the evaporator from starting in abnormal situations.
• High Inverter Efficiency: The use of modern IGBT modules minimizes heat loss in the unit itself and ensures an instant response to changes in chamber pressure.
• Informative interface: The operator always has a clear picture of the process thanks to the digital current display and status light panel (“Operation,” “Lock,” “Power”). Brief specification
• Operating current range: 80–250 A (optimal for most metals).
• Ignition pulse frequency: 2–5 Hz.
• Design: Durable metal housing for installation in a standard 19-inch instrument rack.
